Plover Bonanza in Charlotte

By josh • Nature, Wildlife • 13 Sep 2013

Yesterday the boys and I made the short trip down to Lake Road in Charlotte to see if I could find the American Golden Plovers that had been reported there.  We met my parents there. Not only did we see the three that had been observed earlier in the day, but we counted 27!  There was one male in breeding plumage.  The AMGPs were associating with a large congregation of Killdeer that numbered at least 25.

There are at least six American Golden-Plovers and three Killdeer in this photo.

(apologies for the lousy image, but it was dark and we couldn’t get closer without trespassing and/or disturbing the birds)

Lifer #326 and #228 in Vermont!
