Gadwall at Shelburne Point

A recent quick stop at the point where Harbor Road meets Lake Champlain near Shelburne Shipyard yielded few ducks, but I didn’t leave disappointed because the ducks that were there were pretty unusual for this neighborhood and especially for this time of year.  Here is a male gadwall, one of my favorite dabblers, elegant despite his muted colors:

There’s no real place to park anywhere along Harbor Road and the ducks only seem to use this cove when the rest of the lake is pretty well iced over, but it’s still worth a drive-by if you’re on a tour of the Shelburne and Charlotte lake sites in winter.
